Architects was the winner of a design contest to best utilize
the "L" shaped lot chosen by this major supplier of
parts and equipment for boats. This facility serves as West Marine's
National Headquarters and West Coast Distribution Warehouse. Completed
in 1988 under a very tight budget of $31.50/S.F., the building
provides 36,250 S.F. of corporate offices and 75,085 S.F. of warehouse.
Shortly after completion, the facility withstood the treacherous
Loma Prieta earthquake almost completed unscathed. Suffering only
minor window damage while many of Watsonville's structures crumbled
under the force of the massive temblor, West Marine stands today
as a landmark along the Highway 1 corridor. |
