When the Pon family came to JHW Architects in the summer of 1989, they had purchased a beautiful property and wanted to develop a small winery on the site. From the early seeds of inspiration in Carmel Valley's fertile vineyards, Bernardus Winery was fashioned from remodeling and expanding the old Talbot Winery into a working production facility, and creation of the Jamesburg Vineyards.
In 1994, Bernardus acquired and remodeled a former bank building in Carmel Valley Village. Under the deft hand of JHW's Senior Partner Boris Jacoubowsky, the 5,000 S.F. building was transformed into a beautiful and functional office facility and tasting room. The addition of the trellis and native planting softened the original character of the project and enhanced the entries.
