Daryl Hawkins and Boris Jacoubowsky, of JHW, were the architects for the
Spindrift Inn in 1981. It replaced a former boarding house
that served Cannery Row in the busy sardine canning days of
the 1930's and 1940's. It was the first hotel project to be
approved in Monterey following the inauguration of the California
Coastal Commission.
Monterey's Spindrift Inn was
named one of the ultimate travel picks in the May/June issue featuring the 2004 DEPARTURES Readers'
Favorites Survey. DEPARTURES is the luxury lifestyle magazine
published exclusively for over 700,000 American Express Platinum Card© and
Centurion members in the U.S. Departures magazine stated,
"Located directly on McAbee beach in the heart of historic
Cannery Row, the 42-room Spindrift Inn stakes its claim as
on of the most luxurious hotels on the California coastline,
offering an atmosphere of European refinement and gracious
hospitality."
