With the completion of the 5,000 S.F. Woods Building in Carmel Valley, Villagers proclaimed the country-style barn-like structure a mainstay of the new "upper village." The owner is a seasoned developer who wanted to serve the community and compliment the surroundings, so he sat down with JHW's Ken Walker to "design a functional, simple, straightforward design, in a classic sense, to fit the property and use."
The proof may be seen in the evolution of the details: the upper barn loft door opening out to the yard below (for loading purposes), a basement storage area with elevator, and classic dormers for added light. This contemporary Carmel Village commercial building is finished in a weathered barn look and surrounded by roses and native, drought resistant plants. |
